John Morlan began leading at Ascent in June 2014 with enormous hope--knowing that God has real intentions of love for everyone living in Evergreen and the mountain communities. Our congregation has more than doubled in worship attendance since this beginning . . . and this humbles Pastor John since people are so enthusiastic about learning more about and following Jesus into their everyday lives. John and his wife Julie have four crazy kids---Jack (18), Cameron (16), Eliana (14), and Caleb (5)---that he's doing everything he can to keep up with. John has been in pastoral ministry for over 25 years and his life is passionately poured into his rich relationships both in the community and the church. In addition to having a love for leading in God's Kingdom and enjoying the privilege of serving Jesus, he loves his family, the Kansas Jayhawks, frying chicken, hiking, coaching football, and writing. He has authored 29: The Church that God Started Continues in Us (Acts); Afterlife: The Implications of Eternity; Begin (Genesis); Beaten But Still Becoming (Exodus); Breakthrough (Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, & Joshua); Plan BE (Jesus' Sermon on the Mount); Walls (Ezra/Nehemiah); Word on the Street (John); When in Rome Do as the Christians Do (Romans); and a 9-week discovery guide called Join God (about actively mirroring the character of God in daily life).
You can discover more about him, his life, and how he views the world on Facebook, Twitter, or his blog. Feel free to contact him to buy him lunch or become an honorary Jayhawk at john@AscentChurch.co.
With over a decade of youth ministry experience and a large-scale impact serving teens, Matt Moore leads and pastors FORGE (student ministry) as well as providing pastoral leadership for our Kids Ministry Coordinators. He is married to Stephanie, and they have three little ones: two daughters--Avery and Emory--and one son--Barrrett. To connect with him on life, ministry, or just to tell him why you are or are not a Tennessee Volunteer fan, hit him up at matt@AscentChurch.co. Or you can find him on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram (awe_yeah_son). If none of those work, use smoke signal.
Leader of Worship Arts
Micah and his wife Kacie were added to Ascent in March 2018, but his leading worship in our community is not Micah's first go-round with Evergreen. Drew Stephens--Micah's dad--was the lead pastor here for 6 years while he was growing up, so he's got more time in Evergreen than anyone else on staff! But, he's so much more than a great vocalist, musician, and worship leader. We love this couple's heart and also appreciate Micah's passion for mission (years with YWAM internationally). If you'd like to get to know these cool kids better, reach out to him here.
Judy joined the Ascent team in 2016. She is active in our Women's Ministries and coordinates volunteers for our Hospitality and Connections Teams. She and her husband, Mike are always looking for a way to love and serve others! Judy works on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays (9-4). E-mail her at ContactUs@AscentChurch.co.
Director of MOPS
Julie joined the team in 2015 by starting the Evergreen MOPS group at Ascent Church. In addition to being our Pastor's wife, she is also a fabulous mom to three teenagers and a toddler! (Jack, Cam, Ellie and Caleb). It's a good thing she can whistle really loud! Julie has been an integral force in connecting with young moms in Evergreen. E-mail her at Julie@AscentChurch.co!
Director of Women's Ministries
Victoria joined Ascent's ministry staff in 2016 and has already made an incredible impact in the lives of our church's and larger community's women. She just completed a Masters in Ministry at Biola and God gave us the great blessing of planting her here in Evergreen with us! Victoria is married to Eric Taylor . . . and they are quite the pair. Want to connect with this awesome lady? E-mail her at Women@AscentChurch.co.
Khara joined our team in March 2017. She is very excited about working for God and promoting His love throughout our Evergreen community! Khara is the mom to 2 wonderful and wild boys and she and her husband, Justin, live in Evergreen. E-mail her at Relations@AscentChurch.co.
