Volunteers are needed every Friday from 9-10:30 am at EVERGREEN SAFEWAY to help collect donated food items from the store and sort them, then deliver them to garage storage off of Meadow Drive in Evergreen. Items are later picked up by St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Denver. Volunteer chefs there look through the donated ingredients and create tasty soups, casseroles, salads and other dishes for Denver's homeless each Monday! To get involved through Ascent, please contact Scott Jussel at email@example.com.
Every Mondays, Street Reach serves the hungry, the lonely, the homeless and the disenfranchised of Denver. We offer a warm place to visit, coffee and donuts in the morning.
Back in the kitchen, a 100% volunteer staff starts preparing the noonday spaghetti dinner. With generous donations from the community of Parker and the Safeway store in Evergreen, they are able to rescue produce, deli and bakery items that would otherwise be thrown in the dumpster. This "rescued" food provides vegetables, fruit, green salad, bread, as well as dessert and sandwiches to go.
The group serves 600-1000 hungry people every Monday, even on holidays. The director, Kathleen, has one directive, "we do not serve anyting we would not eat ourselves."
The unrecorded spirit of this groups gives a kind word, a gentle hand and an occasional pair of socks. Every volunteer is appreciated. This ministry always needs help, especially about 5:00 pm. They start preparing dinner around 9:00 am, and serve from 1:00-6:00 pm. About that time, they are tired and could use help cleaning up. If you can find it in your heart, stop and give a hand to some very happy Christians doing God's work!
